RACING ANNOUNCES NEW CAR, GOALS FOR 2003 SEASON
WASHINGTON, DC - Following an intense
off-season improvements program, Angela Proudfoot Racing (APR), one of the top
professional sport compact drag racing teams, today announced that it has its sights set
on breaking into the eight-second zone with its new methanol-powered 2003 unibody Honda
Civic coupe.
This new car is the result of a huge effort
made by the team to improve the performance of their racecar to a higher level than
previously achieved. "By applying all we have learned over the last three years with our '98
Civic, we believe the setup in the new car will yield reliability and consistency in both
the engine and the drive-train," said Angela.
Inside the 1.8L B18C power plant, JE pistons
and Eagle rods massage AEBS' beefy, bulletproof sleeves. A BCE head outfitted with Racing
Engine Valves' (REV) valve springs, retainers, and valves tops off the powerful engine
combination while a Cometic head gasket seals them together. NGK spark plugs along with a
Crane ignition produce the spark needed. Oiling is handled by Z10 Engineering's newly
developed dry sump oil system. The tremendous power is generated by a massive custom-built
Turbonetics turbo teamed with a Nitrous Express direct-port nitrous-oxide system. A
FLUIDYNE 'Direct-Fit' Performance Radiator yields optimum cooling capability while
Goodridge aramid-braided lines and lightweight fittings tie it all together. The
drive-train has been strengthened with Quaife gears and an ATB differential working in
tandem with Nitro axles. To finish it off, a lightweight spindle mount suspension and
funny car roll cage have been built by Ken's Kustom Chassis to prepare the car for
expected 170-mph speeds.
On the outside, APR's new logo will grace the
hood of the racecar, which will feature a paint scheme incorporating the team's new
vibrant colors of orange, yellow, white, and dark purple. "As we enter our most
exciting and promising season, we felt it only natural that we should introduce a new look
and a new identity to go along with our new racecar," said Angela.
The team will be competing for the
championship in the Hot Rod class of the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing series
along with other selected sport compact races. "We fully intend to continue the
streak we started last year of setting new career-best e.t's at each and every race,"
said Angela. "We expect to break into the eights early on and remain a top contender
in the NHRA Sport Compact series."
In 2002, Angela finished 6th in the NDRA
(NOPI) The Fast and the Furious series and 9th in the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag
Racing series with a best e.t. of 9.58-sec at 151 mph. Much of their success can be
attributed to the support from their sponsors. Their Associate level sponsors from 2002,
American Products Company (APC), Tokico USA, Inc., Offix Image Smart, and People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), have all renewed their contracts for 2003 with APC
being the main sponsor of the team. "We are very happy to have all of our sponsors
continue with our program this year, as each proved to be a mutually beneficial
relationship."
